Swanson typed in black ink on brown paper and attached to page 197 of the Laughlin Portrait Committee Correspondence Scrapbook, letterhead reads "[C]ARE REQUESTED TO FAVOR THE COMPANY BY CRITICISM AND SUGGESTION CONC[ERN]ING ITS SERVICE 1201-S WESTERN UNION NEWCOMB CARLTON, PRESIDENT J. C. WILLEVER, FIRST VICE-PRESIDENT [o]n the data line on full-rate telegrams and day letters, and the time of receipt at destination as shown on all messages is STANDARD TIME. THE QUICKEST, SUREST AND SAFEST WAY TO SEND MONEY IS BY TELEGRAPH OR CABLE" with "SIGNS DL = Day Letter NM = Night Message NL = Night Letter LCO = Deferred Cable CLT = Cable Letter WLT = Week-End Letter" on the right, left side of the letterhead is covered by a blue white and orange sticker reading "read it OVER think it OVER look it OVER then if you want to PUT IT OVER Send a TELEGRAM", letter praises the idea to memorialize Dr. Laughlin but suggests that it be done in a way that helps Osteopathy such as a scholarship; 20.2 cm (w) x 16.4 cm (h). Paper yellowing, fading in places, hole top right, one horizontal and one vertical crease from folding, some black marks. |
